The design

The Crayon rug is not attributed to any external designer: HAY signs it with its own name and its product page carries no author credit. This is a frequent occurrence with this manufacturer, which calls on independent designers for part of its catalog and designs the rest itself. What makes the piece here is the yarn: HAY weaves it tightly in a blend of New Zealand wool and viscose, on a neutral background crossed by fine multicolored flecks.

La maison

Hay

HAY est un éditeur de design danois fondé à Copenhague en 2002 par Rolf et Mette Hay. Les deux fondateurs en assurent toujours la direction artistique, Rolf pour le mobilier, Mette pour les accessoires. La maison travaille avec des designers contemporains comme Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec, auteurs de la collection d'extérieur Palissade, Stefan Diez, Hee Welling, créateur de la série About A Chair, ou Louise Campbell, dont la Prince Chair de 2002 est entrée au MoMA. Depuis 2019, l'américain Herman Miller, aujourd'hui MillerKnoll, en est l'actionnaire majoritaire.
