Uchiyama had presented Louis Poulsen with a design idea deconstructing the concept of the traditional chandelier into thin layers of concentric circles. This concept incorporated floating lampshades held by very fine wires, expressing both transparency and lightness. The name “enigma” referred to the fact that the lampshades seem to hover when seen from a distance, illuminated. It turned out that this idea was entirely in line with Louis Poulsen's product philosophy and presented itself as a reinterpretation of the lampshade assembly: Japanese grace combined with Scandinavian simplicity.
